The 2010 Orphan Auto Picnic returns to the Kendall County Fairgrounds for another day of classic automotive fun! Last year, 2009, was our first year at this venue, and we were delighted with its spaciousness and other amenties. We can't wait to go back!

The featured make for the for the 2010 Orphan Auto Picnic will be the Corvair in commemoration of its 50th anniversary. We will be offering this handsome Illinois Special Event License plate that you can display on your vehicle for 60 days leading up to the Orphan Auto Picnic. Production is limited, so order yours today!

What's an orphan auto? In a nutshell, qualifications can be summarized as follows:
  • A car must be at least 20 years old to qualify as an orphan.
  • A car is an orphan if its manufacturer no longer exists (e.g., Packard, Studebaker, Hudson, etc.)
  • Foreign makes that are no longer imported to the US qualify as orphans (e.g., Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen, etc.)
  • Discontinued model lines from surviving manufacturers qualify as orphans (e.g., Chevrolet Corvair, Ford Falcon, etc.)
  • A car does not qualify as an orphan if it is the "ancestor" of an existing model; some notable non-orphans include the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Chevrolet Nomad.

Disappointed that we're unimpressed with your 1963 Lamborghini? Not to worry -- a portion of the spectator parking area will be set aside for nonqualifying collector cars. (But if you're planning to arrive in a Corvette, why not trade up to a Crosley?)

Chicagoland Corvair Enthusiasts will once again offer free beverages while they last. As always, there will be fabulous raffle prizes, so come prepared to buy lots of raffle tickets. Most of all, you'll enjoy the best cars, the greatest people, and the most fun of any event of the summer!

Hot-Rod Harry says:

"Remember, dogs are not allowed
at the Kendall County Fairgrounds!"

Thanks to all of the volunteers and participants who made the 2009 Orphan Auto Picnic one of the best ever! This was our first OAP at the Kendall County Fairgrounds, and it came off without a hitch. Everyone was delighted with the new venue, which offered virtually unlimited space for orphan cars and spectators. Still, some of us couldn't help feeling nostalgic for the Port-A-Potties that have become a "fixture" in past years.

The featured makes for the 2009 show, Packards and Studebakers, were kept safe from the elements under the fairground's gigantic enclosure. Not that there was any threat of rain -- we enjoyed a perfect late summer day, sunny and cool.
