What's an orphan? Well, by the strictest definition of the word, the company went of business; Packard, Studebaker, Hudson, Cord, MG, Triumph, and Austin are a few examples. This is the criteria most orphan car shows go by. At the CCE Orphan Auto Picnic, we also allow foreign makes if the company has ceased official US importation of that brand (Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen, etc.) We allow discontinued model lines even if the company is still in business. Examples might be the Corvair, Chevy II, Falcon, Valiant, Comet, VW squareback and fastback. The actual model name doesn't matter as long as the whole model line was discontinued. These companion models were always built in addition to the regular lineup of Chevrolets, Fords, Chryslers, etc; most had a run of around 10 years before they were discontinued. Meantime, the "regular" line of that manufacturer continued on, with the main lineup evolving, usually with new names and platforms. It's certainly easy to see the lineage of, say, the newest Chevy Impala straight back to a 1950 Bel Air; that's why a '57 Nomad wagon as desirable as it may be just isn't considered an orphan, here or anywhere else. After all, if we let any kind of car in , it would be just another car show, and that isn't our goal. We're sorry if your car doesn't qualify; you are still welcome to attend in your non-orphan and park in the spectator lot. We have reserved the front row of spectator parking for non-qualifying collector cars. Below are some of the more common makes and car lines we allow into the OAP. Keep in mind that any car, even if the make is on this list, must be at least 20 years old. Obviously, we can't include every kind of possible car that could show up, but if the company that made your car is still in business, and the car isn't on the list, chances are really good we won't consider it enough of an orphan for the OAP.
